Royal Caribbean international

Ben worked for Royal Caribbean International as a full-time musician on board the Radiance of the Seas, travelling around Australia and New Zealand and to Pacific Islands such as Vanuatu and the Isle of Pines. The Radiance of the Seas Orchestra was required to perform nightly shows in the theatre and in venues around the ship, often meeting new vocalists and learning their charts the day of the show. Working closely with like-minded performers from all over the world, in a challenging and supportive environment, was a unique highlight of Ben’s career.

freelance musician & Peripatetic tutor

After graduating from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) with a Bachelor in Jazz Performance and Composition, Ben embarked on a career as a freelance performer and peripatetic tutor in Perth and subsequently Melbourne, Australia. Tutoring students in a number of different schools was an opportunity for Ben to pass on his knowledge and gain valuable experience as an educator. Ben was able to work with male and female students from Year 3 to Year 12, including students with learning disabilities such as ADHD and Autism. In addition to creating and formatting his own music theory class for ballet students, a highlight from Ben’s formative years in Perth was running a Big Band for two years, culminating in a concert at the Ellington Jazz Club in WA.

Ben is once again working as a freelance musician and tutor and regularly teaches private students from his home. Although Ben is a specialist trumpet player, he also teaches secondary instruments such as Trombone, Euphonium and Tuba.
